This Pulitzer Prize-winning rock musical is a deeply moving family drama that confronts societal stigmas surrounding mental health, rewriting the way that people with mental illness are depicted with compassion and understanding.

Brought to the stage by Encore! Musicals Berlin e.V.’s international cast and crew of musical theatre enthusiasts, this is the group’s fifth show, following on the heels of their hugely popular production of The Wedding Singer in October 2023.

Audiences are not just granted a glimpse into the interior lives of this small cast of characters; beneath this singular narrative lies an exploration of familial ties, romantic love, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of normalcy amidst life's chaos—a narrative universally resonant. Paired with the musical mastery of Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt, prepare for a journey where emotions run deep. There won't be a dry eye in the house.

“It's been a real privilege to get to tell this story”, says co-director James Butler. “The form and the plot fit perfectly together. The way the scenes ebb and flow between the real and the surreal, between the reality of one character and that of another, is the exact sort of thing that live theatre does so well. I'm very excited for audiences to get to experience this show.”

Step into the tumultuous world of Next to Normal, where the facade of suburban normalcy shatters to reveal a family grappling with loss, grief, and mental illness. Diana, a mother haunted by her past, struggles to navigate the complexities of her fractured mind, while her family tries to hold on to hope. As they confront their demons, they discover that the path to healing is fraught with challenges, but also holds the promise of redemption and understanding.
